What is the purpose of the Van Alstyne Senior Center?
Van Alstyne Senior Center provides opportunities for area Senior Citizens to socialize, enjoy lunch, play games and participate in scheduled activities. Van Alstyne Senior Center is a satellite of Meals on Wheels Texoma.
Where is the Senior Center? When is it open?
The Senior Center is located in Downtown Van Alstyne at 148 S Main Street, Van Alstyne, TX 75495. Here is a map.
The hours are Monday through Friday 9 AM – 2 PM and the phone number is 903-482-6341.
Who is eligible to participate in lunches and scheduled activities?
Everyone 55 and up is eligible to join the Van Alstyne Senior Center for lunches in the building and for all activities. Membership is free. We do not ask for income, social security information, etc. We just need your contact information in case of emergencies.
Is there a cost for lunch?
There is a donation request of $2 per person, per meal.

Meals on Wheels Texoma posts the menu for the current month on their website here. We also post the menu in our Facebook Group.
How does a homebound person request Meals on Wheels delivery?
Request meal deliveries through the main Meals on Wheels Texoma office by calling (903) 786-3351 or toll-free at (877) 900-3351. If you are calling to inquire about receiving home-delivered meals, press 1 after your call is connected to be transferred to our Case Management Department.
Clients are referred by Department of Aging and Disability Services (DADS), and are qualified based on their inability to prepare a nutritious meal for themselves. Clients include homebound, needy, and disabled individuals who are challenged to the point that meal preparation is difficult or impossible. Our volunteers help monitor the health of our clients, and our Senior Center Managers maintain contact with our clients, and report concerns about their welfare to Caseworkers.
How can I volunteer for the Senior Center in Van Alstyne or for Meals on Wheels?
Apply through the main Meals on Wheels Texoma office by calling (903) 786-3351 or toll-free at (877) 900-3351. Or, visit their website. A background check is required.
Starting in September 2023, all meals will be delivered from the main Meals on Wheels Texoma office. Lunches in the Van Alstyne Senior Center continue being served as usual.
Are donations tax-deductible?
Yes! Our federal tax ID number is 20-1319845. Many companies also offer matching funds for both current employees and retirees, so please inquire through your human resources department about submitting requests.
